Evidence and Editorial Standards

How we choose, label, and update what we share.

About › Evidence and editorial standards

Our goal is to help you understand, not to tell you what to think or do. Here is how we try to keep what we publish accurate, balanced, and kind.

What our pages are built on

Our foundation is the biopsychosocial view: biology, psychology, and social and cultural context all matter. Pages draw on named sources, and we link to them so you can read the original.

We prefer peer-reviewed research and major health organizations, and we favor sources from roughly the last ten years. When an older source is foundational, we say so.

How we label what you read
  • Research-informed: based on published studies or guidelines, with sources listed.
  • Reflection: questions and ideas for thinking about your own life. Not evidence.
  • Philosophy and culture: wisdom traditions, spirituality, and ideas from different cultures, shared as perspectives and not as scientific findings.

We say where evidence is limited or debated, and we separate established findings from emerging ideas.

What we do not do
  • We do not diagnose, treat, or give individual medical advice.
  • We do not offer screening tests that claim to tell you what you have.
  • We do not replace your doctor or therapist, and we encourage you to talk with licensed professionals.
  • We do not sell your information.
Review and updates

Our content is educational and is checked against published sources. Where a licensed clinician has reviewed a page, we will say so on that page. Where we do not say so, it has not had a clinical review.

When evidence changes, or we find a mistake, we update the page. If you spot something we should fix, please tell us through the contact page.
